Piano
We believe 7 years of age is the youngest children can start private piano lessons. At this age children have begun to develop longer attention spans, can retain material with ease, and have gained more physical finger dexterity.
Guitar
8-9 years of age is the earliest we recommend for guitar, and 10 years of age for bass guitar. Guitar and electric bass require that the left hand of the student apply direct pressure to the strings of the instrument in order to produce a clear sound. Children under this age may lack the hand strength to accomplish this task.
Bass
10 years of age is the earliest we recommend for bass guitar. Electric bass requires that the left hand of the student apply direct pressure to the strings of the instrument in order to produce a clear sound. Electric bass has very large, metal strings. Children under this age may lack the hand strength to accomplish this task.
Drums
Generally, a good time to get started is between 8-9 years of age. Children will have developed the physical coordination required to move their limbs in different directions with purpose at the same time. They also have the mental capacity to begin to understand syncopated rhythms and patterns.
Voice
For children we recommend starting between ages 9-10 years of age. Voice lessons with children will not be taught in the same way as lessons with adults. Our vocal teachers exercise great care with children to prevent injury to growing vocal chords. Teachers will also keep songs age appropriate.
